What I’ve Learned!

This semester has flown by! Out of all the projects in my classes that I had to do this year, this blog has been my favorite! I had always wondered about the blogging world and I’m so glad I finally got my start in it!

I learned so much during this project. To maintain a good blog you must update it regularly and post interesting and relevant content that your audience will want to read! Some things that I could improve on is broadening the recipes and craft projects that I try.

This has defiantly been a beneficial experience. Knowing how to blog is an important skill in todays work world. Many people in all different professions have blogs to promote their companies in an interesting way, and this is defiantly a skill that could put you ahead of other people applying for the same job.

Recently, I just cooked one of my favorite meals from this blog, Chicken Fajitas and just wanted to show y’all how delicious they look coming out of the oven!

Chicken Avocado Salad

I learned to use a new program at the beginning of the year and I love it! The new program is…STORIFY! With storify, people can take images from around the social media world and turn it into a story. For my storify I used photos from around the web of craft projects and cooking adventures!

This week I made chicken avocado salad! Avocado is one of my favorite foods and I was so happy to find a delicious recipe to make. The recipe was way easier that I thought it would be. It took total about 15 minutes to make!

The recipe calls for avocado, cilantro, lime juice, mayonnaise and chicken! The recipe says to use rotisserie chicken, but you can also just bake your own chicken like it did! Either was is good! Using rotisserie chicken will cut down on time even more!

First, cut up the cilantro and avocado while your cooking your chicken. I had never cooked with cilantro before, but I love the smell and flavor it gave the recipe.

After you’ve cut up the cilantro and avocado start on the dressing! The dressing is incredibly easy to make. Mix together 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and 1 tablespoon of lime juice. This gives the recipe an unexpected but delicious taste. After the chicken is done cooking add the chicken, cilantro, and avocado into the dressing.

Thoroughly mix all the ingredients together so that the chicken is coated with the dressing. This can be served right away or chilled over night. I couldn’t wait to try it and it was absolutely wonderful! It has a cool refreshing taste that is great for a quick summertime meal!

Breakfest for Dinner!

One of my favorite things to have for dinner is…BREAKFAST! And one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast is French toast! I always order French toast when I go to restaurants. I thought that French toast was really difficult to make until I found an easy French toast recipe on Pinterest!

This French Toast recipe is delicious and so easy to make! Its great if you love breakfast for dinner, and its quick and easy enough to make in the morning if you want to start your day off with a delicious breakfast!

The Coffee Mug Castrophe

I love coffee. My day doesn’t start until I have my cup of coffee…or 2 or 3 cups. I also love coffee mugs! And I defiantly love a cute coffee mug for those awful mornings (MONDAYS!). I found a DIY coffee mug tutorial I thought it would be a great thing to try and something that I would defiantly get a lot of use out of.

I went to the dollar store and bought a coffee mug. I liked the coffee mug with blue stripes rather than a plain white one, because I was going to write a quote on the bottom. I thought the pink sharpie would look really cute with the blue stripes. So, this super easy DIY project only called for 2 items and cost $1. I thought this was the perfect project.

I wrote on the bottom of the mug one of my favorite quotes, “Do More of what makes you happy.” I traced over it 3 times to make it stand out more. Next, all I had to do was place it in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. I was so excited to see this completed project. Then, after 30 minutes I took it out of the oven…

The sharpie wore off in the oven 😦 I’m not sure what happened, but I think that if I do this project again I would use a darker colored sharpie and hopefully it will show up better.

Honey Mustard Chicken!

My favorite dressing is….HONEY MUSTARD! When I found a Honey Mustard Chicken I knew I had to try it! One of the best parts was that I already had most of the ingredients in my fridge or they were easy to find, so I got right to making this chicken.

This recipe was a little different than others that I have tried, because I had to marinate the chicken over night. I mixed the honey mustard dressing, garlic clove, honey, and soy sauce and then poured it over the chicken in a plastic bag. I let it marinate for a day.

After it had marinated for a day I took it out to cook. It took about fifteen minutes to cook. A great side to go with the honey mustard chicken is mixed vegetables and a salad.

The honey mustard chicken was delicious! It had a wonderful tangy but sweet taste to it and I will defiantly be making this again!

For all the Fajita Lovers! (And the new Pinterst Adventure App!)

My favorite type of food is…MEXICAN FOOD! I could eat chips and dip all day long! One of my favorite things to order at Mexican restaurants is chicken fajitas, so when I found a healthy, easy chicken fajita recipe on Pinterest I had to try it!

I had most of the ingredients already but a few things I had to buy was cumin and chili powder, and they were very easy to find in the grocery store.

The preparation was very easy! I mixed the sauce together, cut up the chicken and vegetables, and put in the chili sauce.

I threw it all together in a baking pan and mixed it together! When I first saw a recipe for chicken fajitas I thought that it would be a long process of cutting a lot of vegetable and making the sauce just right, but this was very easy, which is a relief for a busy college student with too much to do!

When I finished mixing it all together, I put it in the oven and it was done in 20 minutes! Not only was it quick and easy to make but it was DELICOUS! The batch of fajitas made so much that I had dinner for the next 2 nights! I love this recipe and it is so tasty I’ve already made it a second time! I defiantly recommend this chicken fajita recipe for anyone who doesn’t have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen but love chicken fajitas!

I made an app for Pinterest Adventures!

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 4.59.58 PM

On the Pinterest Adventures app, people will be able to get ratings for projects they want to do. They will see a 5 star rating system (5 stars is the best, 1 star is the worst) and be able to read people’s comments that have already tried the projects. This will help people decide what projects to do.There is no rating system on Pinterest,so this will show people what problems people who have done the project encountered or things they liked when doing the project. All they will have to do is type in the name of the project they are thinking about doing and the review will pop up!

My first Pinterest fail…

I really have been surprising myself with doing so well with my Pinterest projects. I never thought I could be crafty or learn to cook more than eggs and I’m so glad that I’ve learned there is hope out there for me. Then my next project happened…and I remembered why I (use to) hate crafting. I have seen these beautiful wine bottle vases all over Pinterest and have been dying to try to make one! The wine glass turned out so well I thought I would give the vase a shot. I couldn’t find exact instructions on Pinterest for what I wanted to try, so I decided to just go for it. The only thing I could find was vases for sale. I soon found out why…

I started out my trying to remove the wine label from the bottle. First, I used hot water and soap and tried scrubbing it. That barely removed any of it. Next, I decided to soak the wine bottle in the sink full of hot water and soap. I let it sit for 30 minutes then tried to scrub the label off. This worked a little better, but still some of the sticky glue would NOT come off!

Next, I started to paint it. My plan was to paint the entire vase pink. I put 3 coats on the vase but it still did not look like it was covered in paint. I decided to let it dry to see if it looked better. I let it dry for 30 minutes, but when I went to pick it up the dried paint just rubbed off. I painted over it and decided to continue.

The next step was adding paint and glitter to the vase. My plan was to put a really cute stencil I found on top of the vase and then cover it with glitter.

That did not work! It looked awful. Then I tried to only do a strip of the stencil on the vase and trace it in white puffy paint.

It. looked. terrible. I hated it. It was a good try, but it did not look like anything I wanted. The vase ended up in the trash can.

Even though this was my first Pinterest fail I’m going to keep trying!

My roommate and I were cooking dinner one night when she told me she found a healthy chocolate chip cookie recipe on Pinterest. She told me there wasn’t any butter or flour in these cookies and it was mostly healthy ingredients. My first thought was there is no way that these cookies can taste good, but I thought I’d give it a try. We checked our pantry and we had all the ingredients that the recipe called for.

If you like peanut butter then this is defiantly a recipe you want to try. First, we mix all the ingredients together and then dug in to start forming the cookies. Roll the ingredients into medium size balls and place 1 inch apart on a cookie sheet.

The cookies only take about 8 minutes to prepare and 10 minutes to cook so you can have a great dessert in less than 20 minutes!

When these cookies came out of the oven we were all a little unsure of how they were going to taste, but we gave it a try and…..they were so good! We made 24 cookies and they were all gone within the hour! I defiantly recommend making these cookies!!

DIY Sparkly Wine Glass Attempt!

For my next project I decided to try something I have never done before….a sparkly wine glass! I have been seeing them all over Pinterest and always thought they looked cute. However, I am not very crafty so I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to attempt it. Then I found this super easy sparkly wine glass tutorial and decided to give it a shot!

First, buy a clear wine glass. They have really cheap ones at Hobby Lobby and I even found one for $1 at HEB!

Next, you need 3 simple items:

1. Mod Podge (you can get at Hobby Lobby or any craft store!)

2. A paint brush

3. Glitter – choose any color!

First, you want to tape off the section of the glass you want to glitter. After you do that, apply the first coat of mod podge and glitter. Apply a second coat of mod podge to seal the glitter to the glass. You can repeat this steps as many times as you would like, but I would recommend doing it at least twice. Then, let it dry. The hardest part for me was removing the tape after the mod podge had dried. Sometimes, some of the glitter would start to tear off, but it it very easy to fix. Stick the glitter back onto the glass and mod podge over it and no one will ever be able to tell!

This project was so fun and easy I made several more glasses for my friends and everyone loved them!

My first cooking adventure – Orange Chicken!

A few weeks ago I realized that I can really only cook three meals, and one of those is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I decided that it was finally time to learn to cook real meals instead of living off of peanut butter and lean cuisines. I started my search for recipes on my favorite website…PINTEREST! One recipe that caught my eye was Skinny Orange Chicken.

Before I looked at the recipe I thought it would be very complicated to make and take a lot of different ingredients. I was happy to find out it really simple and I already had most of the ingredients.

After gathering all the ingredients the next steps were very simple. I cut up the chicken into 1 inch squares and mixed all the ingredients in a bowls. Next, I cooked the chicken in a pan and poured the orange chicken sauce over it.

At first I thought I had completely messed up the recipe because the sauce looked like soup. However, after a few moments the sauce thickened and it began to look like something you’d order at a 5-star restaurant!

I poured the orange chicken over rice and sat down to test out my first cooking adventure. The only thing I might change is cutting down on the amount of orange juice the recipe calls for, the orange-y taste was a little overpowering on a few bites. Overall, I really enjoyed it and think my first cooking adventure was a success!
